Our Story

Pearce Family Wines is proud to offer superior, single vineyard wines crafted by a small team of dedicated and experienced wine artisans.

Pursuing a lifelong dream...

A serial entrepreneur with decades of experience in the restaurant industry, John Pearce has long cultivated a passion for food and wine. After meeting renowned winemaker, Michael Scorsone, in 2019, a strong friendship formed based on their shared love of wine. Over the course of their many conversations, John shared his dreams of launching his own winery.

The stars aligned...

An opportunity of a lifetime fell in John’s lap—in the form of 20 barrels of some of Napa Valley’s finest wine sourced from the Reisacher Vineyard. John seized upon the opportunity and purchased the wine – and so Carpe Vinum was born – Seize the Wine! John and Michael got straight to work and continued the winemaking to bring the first Carpe Vinum vintage to market.

A source of inspiration...

John has always been a fan of Robin Williams, and one of his favorite movies of all time was Dead Poets Society. In the movie, there’s a scene where Robin (Mr. Keating) discusses the meaning of Carpe Diem with his students: “Carpe Diem. Seize the day...Make your life extraordinary.” Seize the day. Do something exceptional. Live every day to its fullest. These words have been so inspiring and integral to Pearce Family Wines’ founding that we thought it only fitting that they should inform our first label. We decided to go with Carpe Vinum: Seize the wine. Hopefully everyone can live each day to its fullest while enjoying an exceptional glass of wine.
